This post is being made one week after I came up with the idea to start the course. I had the concept (from others doing similar things) and I searched the internet for ideas on obstacles to include. Then I looked at my property and figured out where I would put it and walked off some rough measurements. I used those measurements to put together a digital version of the course that looked like this on 12-29-23.

Then I posted on the local dog club group to see if others had the same interests in my building this course as I did. The response was very positive and so I decided to jump into it!

I cleared the weeds off the area with a weed whacker (I don’t have a mower) and got some real measurements. The weed clearing opened up more space than I originally thought I had to work with. And with the outline of the area marked and measurements in hand, I went back to the design program and came up with this on 12-31-23.

Over the New Year holiday I trimmed up the low branches and moved some small trees that were in the area. I priced out this massive project (yikes!) and worked on creating ‘levels’ for the course and criteria for completing each level while still searching the internet for more obstacles.

On Jan 2nd I mentioned to a neighbor that I wanted to clear the top vegetation off the area and she said, “My brother has the equipment to do that, I’m sure he would help you!” The very next day, he came over to see it and in less than an hour he was hard at work! He got the whole ‘puppy level’ area cleared and smoothed out and I am SO thrilled with it!! It is ready for obstacles and I can’t wait to get started. I’m helping with a dog event all weekend, but when I’m not there, I’m working on this website and wanted to get the blog started. Amazon orders are starting to come in as well. Here are a few photos of the cleared area and the latest design as of 1-4-24.
